In the middle of Gotland, in the tranquil landscape, lies Väte Haltarve 511 – a small crofter's cottage in limestone where the house's history and the surrounding landscape are given room to breathe. The ground floor is the house's natural gathering point, with kitchen, living room and hallway in a cohesive and welcoming setting. From the garden you step straight into the house, and the two steps between outside and inside make the transition almost imperceptible. In the living room, the stove stands as an obvious centrepiece – a place for late evenings when darkness has fallen outside the windows. The kitchen is custom-built by local Todej, and together with the house's limestone and wood it creates a warm and genuine feel.

One floor up is the bedroom, with views over the open meadows surrounding the house. Here it becomes clear what makes this place special – it is quiet, green and far from the noise of everyday life.

The house has been renovated with great care and respect for its history. Roof tiles from the local Mulde brickworks have been reused, the floors consist of limestone and Gotland pine, and the staircase was made by a furniture carpenter. The windows are hand-crafted by Ammor snickeri, and the kitchen was built by a local joinery. The material choices are throughout solid and well balanced to the character of the house.

On the plot there is a separate guesthouse with a shower and composting toilet, prepared with pipes for a WC should you later wish to install a closed tank. There are also several storage sheds as well as a sauna with an outdoor shower. Together with the lovely garden, the plot becomes a natural extension of the home, with plenty of space for both socialising and quiet days outdoors.

This is a home that invites a different pace. Morning coffee in the garden, dinners along the house wall and evenings in front of the stove. From here, the winding country roads around the island are close at hand, as are beaches, farm shops, potteries, cafés and restaurants.
