History

The history of Kungsgården actually began as early as the 12th century with the Bååt family according to legend, but our history begins in the 16th century. Gustav Vasa hunted on the estate and planted an oak. The oak still stands today and is tenderly cared for by each generation according to tradition.

The main building was built in the mid-17th century, which is visible in the large stones in the wall. The stone walls on the back and front of the estate were laid in the 17th century.

In the 19th century the estate was acquired by William Tibell, who fought for Napoleon. William Tibell was also one of those who recommended Bernadotte as heir to the throne. Later his daughter Wilhelmina Tibell inherited the estate. Wilhelmina is considered the mother of Rönninge, as she did a great deal for Rönninge, such as getting the railway tracks for the commuter train in place, and we got Rönninge Station. She made sure the navvies got rest and Sunday services, when the bell was rung in the bell tower. The bell tower still stands proudly today.

Rönninge Gård passed into the ownership of the Salvation Army in the early 20th century, which ran it as a rest home.

The chapel was built around 1950. Many weddings and christenings have taken place there. The acoustics are fantastic, which attracts choirs.

In 1979 the estate was bought by a family that runs conference and today mainly hotel operations, with approx. 50 beds. The family has tenderly cared for the estate with respect for its history. In 1988 the private smaller residence was built on the rise with a view over the entire estate.

In the early 90s a bright dining room with a skylight in the middle was built, on the lush back side. The dining room can accommodate up to 100 people, depending on the furnishing.

The large tiled restaurant kitchen is well planned with dry storage, a griddle, work surfaces, a dishwashing section and a hygiene pantry.

In the early 2000s the upper floor of the summer house was renovated and a cosy 3-room apartment was built, for private living or rental.

The garden consists of the apple orchard at the front, where there are still very old apple trees, both summer apples and older winter apples. Other fruits and berries on the estate include pears, plums, grapes, currants, blackberries, rhubarb and cherries. At the front there is also an ash tree estimated to be 700 years old, which has thrived through pollarding. The large maple is also worth mentioning for nature lovers.

To the right of the main building there is a smaller terrace spot full of rhododendrons and grapes, cosy for coffee, barbecuing and dining outdoors during the lush summer, and well shielded from view.

Behind the main building there is a fantastic oak park with around 60 oak trees, which has been newly renovated and the oaks are thriving. Here there is an open space perfect for ceremonies, parties and cosiness, completely shielded from view. Here there is also a circular area called Offerlunden (the Sacrificial Grove), and via a golden rain tree avenue it leads back to the terrace.

On warm days the veranda at the front is the favourite spot, or the shade under the oaks.

In winter and on holidays the fire in the large open fireplace in the Vasa room is magical.
