There are places one is fond of.

And then there are places that are hard to leave.

Nykulla belongs to the latter.

In the rolling landscape between Rörum and Sankt Olof, where small roads wind their way between deciduous forest, pastureland and old farms, lies this rarely beautiful place. Here, just over six hectares of land spread out around the farm – large paddocks, ancient trees and species-rich natural pastures that give the landscape that self-evident, almost timeless beauty that is so hard to create yet so easy to fall in love with.

This is a farm for those who want space around them. For the horses, for cultivation, for the children's adventures, or simply for the freedom of being able to open the door and step straight out into your own piece of Österlen.

Here, outdoor life begins right on the farmyard. Ride out on the small roads through the landscape, take a walk through the paddocks on a quiet evening, or take your bike towards Lake Gyllebosjön for a morning swim. The lake is about two kilometres away, and a few kilometres further east await the sea and Knäbäckshusen's sandy beach.

The farm itself lies beautifully gathered around a generous south-facing inner courtyard. The white façade of the dwelling house, the red doors and the outbuildings together form a classic Scanian farm environment, softly framed by greenery, fruit trees, perennial beds and old trees. There is even an apple tree said to be the largest in Skåne.

The dwelling house has been renovated with an unusual respect for its history. Old wooden floors have been preserved, walls have been plastered and painted with linseed oil paint, and period-typical mouldings, plinths and casings have returned. At the same time, the house has been gently adapted for modern living. The result is personal and alive rather than contrived – a home where the materials can be felt and where the age of the house is still allowed to be part of the experience.

The upper floor is bright and full of character with no fewer than eleven windows, including homejor and roof windows, and from here the house continues up towards the loft. On the entrance level, the social rooms follow one another with kitchen, dining room and living room, while the stove becomes a natural gathering point as the seasons change.

The barn houses two spacious horse boxes and a large loose housing barn of around 100 square metres. The paddocks are fenced, and one of them has lighting. Here it is easy to imagine the horses standing outside the window and the saddle ready for a ride when the working day is over. Large, useful outbuildings. A large and airy hayloft, today used as a sports facility for the children.

And the possibilities do not end there. The garage building is prepared with water, drainage and electricity for anyone who later wishes to explore the possibility of creating additional accommodation, a guest section, a studio or an office.

Despite the feeling of being far out in the countryside, the world around Nykulla is unusually rich. Sankt Olof is just under six kilometres away with, among other things, a grocery shop, and in the other direction await Rörum and the coastal landscape. Lake Gyllebosjön can be reached by bike, and Knäbäckshusen's beach is about seven kilometres from the farm.

But perhaps it is at home that you would rather stay after all.

When the evening sun reaches the courtyard. When the horses graze in the paddocks. When the garden blooms and the deciduous forest stands dense around the land. Or on a chilly autumn day when you come in after a long ride and light the stove.

Nykulla is not just a house with land.
